The course examines literature in the unofficial cultures, folklore genres, and folklife groups that shape the human experience. Special emphasis will be on oral literature, cultural customs, and storytelling (folktales, fables, fairy tales, proverbs, riddles, songs, etc.), conventional beliefs, and traditional lifeways.
